League of Women Voters of Oregon (LVWOR) Council 2022

LWV Lincoln County will host LWVOR Council 2022 Friday, June 17, to Sunday, June 19. We are planning an in-person event. Our local League had planned to host Council 2020. In 2020, we selected Best Western Agate Beach Inn as the venue, made the reservations, and provided a deposit. The Covid pandemic forced LWVOR to replace in-person Council with a virtual event. Agate Beach Inn has agreed to consider our 2020 deposit as a deposit for the June 17-19, 2022 event. Based on today’s best predictions, it appears it will be safe to gather in-person in June if precautions are practiced, such as ensuring participants are vaccinated and boosted, wearing masks, and observing distancing. Perhaps some of these precautions will no longer be necessary. Many of us are ZOOMed out and eager to get together again as human beings. If the predicted curve of the pandemic changes so as make an in-person Council unwise, we will again hold Council virtually. But if we don’t make plans now, it will become impossible to hold an in-person Council even if it were safe to do so. We, the host local League, need to create a committee that will work with the state League to plan and execute this event. We will collaborate with the state League to choose a Council theme, arrange for speakers, and plan workshops. We need to arrange for a welcoming speech from a local elected official. (County Commissioner Kaety Jacobson had agreed to speak to us in 2020; we can ask her again.) Committee responsibilities include gathering brochures about local attractions for Council folders, arranging a dine-around for Friday evening (6/17), providing table decorations for the banquet, and recruiting member volunteers to staff Council registration. Robin Tokmakian is the LWVOR board member responsible for Council. Currently, Ruth Kistler is our local League’s contact person for this event. At our next membership meeting, January 20, she will try to answer questions about Council and recruit members for our Council committee.
