Many LWVLC members “tuned in” on Zoom earlier in 2021 to listen to the candidates for the three positions that were open on the Lincoln County School Board. In the course of the presentations, many of us learned of the severe shortage of musical instruments in the district, along with other needs. Superintendent Dr. Karen Gray has ambitious plans to raise money for the music program and other specific needs at the various schools. The Lincoln County School District is the only school district in Oregon that is a county district. Therefore, the needs of each school area might be very different from each other. Some of our members expressed an interest in attending a meeting, when it might be in our own community, as the meetings circulate to the various schools. Here is the “tentative” current schedule of the district board meetings, starting with Oct. 12. (Meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month, beginning at 6:30 P.M.): October 12: Meeting by Zoom; tbd November 9: Crestview Elementary December 14: Sam Case Elementary January 11: Oceanlake Elementary February 8: Toledo Jr/Sr High School March 8: Waldport Middle/High April 12: Yaquina View Elementary May 10: Taft Elementary June 14: Newport High School If you are interested in being a “community observer,” you need to call the Lincoln County School District Office the day before, or the day of the scheduled meeting, to see if it is being held in person or on Zoom. Also, as a community observer, you are not there as a League Member . . . leave your League pin at home. We hope you will be able to share what you learn in a newsletter, or at one of our future meetings.
