It’s election time again. The May 18 Special Election gives Lincoln County voters the opportunity to choose Lincoln County School District (LCSD) board members and directors for ports, recreation, health, fire protection, water, road and sanitary special districts. Voters must also fill un-expired terms for the Lincoln City mayor and a Waldport council member. Lincoln City mayor and LCSD board member positions are contested (as are some special district board positions). The county will start mailing ballots April 28.
In past elections, LWV Lincoln County has held successful candidate forums that attracted more than 100 residents. Sadly, the pandemic precludes this. For this election, our League will host two Candidate Forums on Zoom, – a Lincoln City mayoral candidate forum April 15 at 11:30 am, and an LCSD board candidate forum April 22 at 6:00 pm. Jean Cowan will moderate both forums.
This will be our first experience hosting Zoom forums. We will be taking measures to avoid disruptive interruptions (known as Zoom-bombing) of our forums. The number of attendees will be limited and they will need to register in advance. Robin Wedertz will host the Zoom meeting. She will control audience entry from a “waiting room,” mute attendees, and prevent unwanted screen sharing. We will record the forums and make the recordings available on our website and Facebook page.
