This month’s meeting will feature a presentation by Dr. Michelle Maher and James Graham with the U.S. Census Bureau. Dr. Maher and her colleague will walk attendees through this decennial event and will explain the importance of an accurate count of U.S. residents, such as determining representation in the House of Representatives, drawing Congressional and state legislative districts, and allocating billions in federal funding for roads, housing, education and healthcare. There will be opportunities to inquire about paid or volunteer positions for those who want to be more involved in ensuring a complete count. For Oregon, the count could result in a Sixth Congressional District as well as affect levels of federal funding. There will be a short business meeting before the presentation.
